Minimising the risk of consequential fire damage

With the launch of its NH/ArmaFlex Smart range, Armacell set a new benchmark in halogen-free insulation materials. Based on this highly innovative foam technology, NH/ArmaFlex Smart C now offers optimised fire performance. While unlaminated halogen-free insulation sheets only meet the European fire class E, the pre-covered material achieves Euroclass C-s2,d0. The flame-retardant material releases 50 percent less smoke than conventional flexible elastomeric foam products, ensuring a better visibility and location of escape and rescue routes. What’s more, the halogen-free insulation releases no corrosive gases, which could form aggressive acids in combination with fire-fighting water. Since consequential fire damage can quickly add up to many times the cost of the actual fire damage, halogen-free insulation materials are particularly required in airports, hospitals, schools, data centres or the pharmaceutical industry.

Cost-efficient 2-in-1 solution

Especially engineered for the insulation of airducts, tanks and larger pipe diameters, NH/ArmaFlex Smart C sheets guarantee a high level of protection against mechanical impact and are easy to clean. Unlike conventional insulation materials and jackets, the pre-covered sheets can be applied cost-efficiently in a single step. The flexible covering consists of a fibreglass fabric that is laminated with black aluminium. “Compared to an insulation material with a conventional aluminium cover, the black lamination allows space-saving installation. As the black surface is highly absorptive, thinner insulation thicknesses can be specified. A black material absorbs much less heat energy than a silver-coloured one. This has an extremely positive impact on the insulation thickness: the higher the absorptiveness, the smaller the insulation thickness needed to prevent condensation”, says Sascha Kaiser, Armacell Product Manager EMEA.

NH/ArmaFlex Smart C is halogen-free, contains neither PVC nor chlorinated polyethylene, is produced without brominated flame retardants, and is free of chlorinated paraffins. The product complies with the German Sustainable Building Council’s highest quality requirements for flame-retardant building products. NH/ArmaFlex Smart C is available as a standard and self-adhesive sheet in insulation thicknesses of 13, 19, 25 and 32 mm. The product portfolio also includes a self-adhesive tape for additional securing of the adhesive seams, such as in the penetration area of fittings.
